Graphic Element

This tour is a half day to a full day's walking tour on tape or MP3 with a large print map.

The Cicerone guides us through this beautiful town, preserved inside magnificent medieval walls. He takes us from two of the oldest buildings in Tuscany, through the old Roman Forum, and ends at the public square, created by Napoleon's sister. He points out art and architecture and he tells us stories that bring the history alive.

  • Begin at the square that houses the dome Brunelleschi studied for his magnificent dome in Florence.
  • See works by one of the most brilliant artists of the Renaissance, whose works can't be seen anywhere but Lucca.
  • Stand at old Roman sites where Crassius, Pompeii and Julius Caesar met to form the triumvirate that conquered Rome.
  • Lunch in the old Roman amphitheatre.
  • Climb one of the old towers, used by wealthy families as homes and fortifications.
  • Learn about the birth of opera and Lucca's famous citizen who created the world's most popular operas.
  • Walk along the top of the town walls, preserved by Napoleon's family.
